Family of American prisoner calls for direct dialogue with the Taliban

Bayan News – The Wall Street Journal reports, citing the family of George Golzman, an imprisoned American citizen, that the members of this American prisoner’s family are requesting direct dialogue with the Taliban.

The report, published on Sunday (September 1), highlights the family’s disappointment with the Biden administration for its handling and follow-up of the case.

According to the report, George Taylor, a representative of the Golzman family, emailed senior U.S. officials, including Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor, last week, stating, “We are finalizing a meeting in Doha with [the Taliban] to bring George back.”

Taylor accused the Biden administration of not paying enough attention to Golzman’s case.

This American citizen was arrested two years ago while traveling to Afghanistan, and the Taliban have cited violations of the country’s laws as the reason for his arrest.

However, the Taliban have confirmed that three American citizens are imprisoned with them, one of whom is an Afghan citizen with U.S. nationality.
