Sixth Moscow Format Meeting; Taliban Foreign Minister Travels to Russia

Bayan News – The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday (October 2) that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister, has traveled to Russia.

Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote on the X platform that Mr. Muttaqi, leading a delegation, has gone to Russia to participate in the sixth consultative meeting of the Moscow Format.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson, Amir Khan Muttaqi will also meet and hold talks with Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the Moscow Format meeting.

This comes after Dmitry Zhirnov, the Russian ambassador in Kabul, recently invited Amir Khan Muttaqi to attend the meeting.

At the previous Moscow Format meeting, representatives from India, Iran, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and the Taliban were present.

This series of meetings was initiated by Russia during the negotiations between the Taliban and the former Afghan government.
