Ban on Girls’ Education; Number of School Students to Increase by Ten Percent Next Year
Bayan News – Several international organizations in Afghanistan have projected in a statement that the number of school students in Afghanistan will increase by 10.7% in the coming year.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children, and the Afghanistan Education Organization are among the key agencies predicting this rise in student numbers within the country.
According to data from these international organizations, published on Tuesday (November 12), the student population is expected to reach 8.9 million. In their statement, the potential rise in student numbers in Afghanistan is attributed to population growth.
These organizations, while pointing to Afghanistan’s economic crisis, mentioned that many Afghan children have been unable to access education this year due to economic challenges and social conditions. Nonetheless, they emphasized their focus on prioritizing the education of vulnerable children in schools.
Moreover, international organizations advocating for children’s rights have committed to supporting 480,000 vulnerable Afghan students in the upcoming year.
These organizations highlight the education efforts in Afghanistan, even though girls above the sixth grade are still barred from schooling. According to UN statistics, over the past three years, 1.5 million female students have been prevented from attending school due to this restriction.
