ICC Prosecutor: You Will Soon Hear News About Afghanistan
Bayan News – Karim Khan, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), met with Afghan women’s rights activists in the Netherlands and stated that news regarding Afghanistan will be announced soon.
On Thursday, December 5, the ICC Chief Prosecutor held a meeting with several Afghan women’s rights activists. During the meeting, Karim Khan said, “You will soon hear news about your country.” However, he provided no further details.
Additionally, on Friday, the ICC shared a post on the X platform, noting that the meeting was held on the sidelines of the Assembly of States Parties of the court in the Netherlands.
According to the ICC, Karim Khan’s office has prioritized actions against crimes of gender-based violence in Afghanistan, working in collaboration with victims and Afghan civil society.
Earlier, during his opening speech at the Assembly of States Parties, Karim Khan also mentioned that the court would soon request arrest warrants in connection with the Afghanistan case.
Previously, six European and Western countries referred the case of violations of Afghan women’s rights by the interim government to the ICC. This action has since garnered support from several other countries.
