Rina Amiri: Policies of the Kabul Administration Undermine the Prospect of a Stable Afghanistan
Bayan News – Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights, stated that the policies of the interim government towards women and girls undermine the prospect of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
She made these remarks on Tuesday night (December 10) on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, writing on the platform X that the current Kabul administration, through the intensification of its policies, including gender-based harassment of women and girls, is deepening the suffering of the Afghan people.
Ms. Amiri wrote: “We must recognize the centrality of human rights in addressing the crisis in Afghanistan.”
According to the American diplomat, millions of people in Afghanistan have endured human rights violations over more than four decades of war.
The U.S. Special Envoy further added: “The escalation of the Taliban’s gender-based harassment policies against women and girls, along with abuses against ethnic and religious groups, journalists, and human rights defenders, continues to deepen the pain and suffering of the Afghan people and erodes the prospect of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.”
Yesterday marked International Human Rights Day, a day unrecognized by the Taliban. Over the past three years, women and girls have faced severe human rights violations, including the denial of access to education and employment.
However, the spokesperson for the interim government reiterated that they do not accept the concept of human rights as defined by Western countries.
