Pakistan’s Special Envoy Discusses Improving Relations with the Acting Government’s Interior Minister

Bayan News – Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, held talks with senior officials of the acting government during his visit to Kabul on Tuesday (December 24).

The Ministry of Interior of the Taliban stated in a press release that Pakistan’s special envoy called for an immediate resolution to the security and political issues between the two countries.

Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister of Interior, emphasized the cultural and historical ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Haqqani added: “The current situation necessitates joint efforts to expedite the resolution of security and political challenges to protect the relationship between the two nations and ensure regional stability and development.”

This marks the first visit of Pakistan’s special envoy to Kabul following heightened tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, triggered by an increase in suicide attacks within Pakistan and sharp criticism from senior Islamabad officials accusing Afghan Taliban leaders of hosting thousands of Pakistani Taliban within Afghanistan.

Additionally, the expansion of activities and attacks by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power has been a significant factor in the deterioration of relations between the two sides.

Simultaneously, recent remarks by Pakistan’s Defense Minister, who referred to Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni as a “plunderer,” sparked a strong reaction from the Taliban, with their spokesperson accusing Khawaja Asif of lacking historical awareness.
