Statement – 15 May 1401
US President Joe Biden has called on Congress to help tens of thousands of Afghan refugees become permanent residents of the United States.
Cyanan reported Thursday (May 15th) that Joe Biden submitted a draft amendment to the Afghan Refugee Assistance Act to lawmakers last week in a proposal to supplement the budget.
Democrat lawmakers Chris Koons of Delaware and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota are said to have led a bill to amend the Afghanistan Refugee Assistance Act in recent months.
According to Cyanan, if the law is passed, it would allow Afghan citizens entering the United States from July 31, 2021 to September 20, 2022, to apply for permanent residency to change their immigration status.
More than 60,000 Afghans were relocated to the United States after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August last year.
