Over the past four years, humanitarian needs in Afghanistan have increased from six million to more than 28 million, the Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Kabul (UNAMA) said.
“The need for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan has skyrocketed from 6.3 million in 2019 to 28.3 million in 2023,” UNAMA said in a tweets on Tuesday.
About six million people are at an emergency level of food insecurity, one step further away from famine levels, it added.
According to UNAMA, this is absolutely one of the highest numbers in need of humanitarian assistance globally.
