CIA Director: Russia’s internal problems create an opportunity for our spies

CIA Director William Burns says that the armed rebellion of Wagner group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin revealed serious internal divisions in Russia and this challenge creates an opportunity for our spies.

The head of the CIA made these statements on Saturday (July 1) in his speech at the UK’s Deepchley Foundation and said that the rebellion of the leader of the Wagner group had a destructive effect on the plans of the Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

He added: “These dissatisfactions create a rare opportunity for us to recruit CIA spies from inside Russia, because the society of this country is dissatisfied with the problems this war has created for them, and we will not miss this opportunity.”

The head of the CIA also added: “It is noteworthy that Prigozhin, before his actions against the Russian government, made decisive statements about the Kremlin’s false logic for invading Ukraine. The impact of these words and those actions will remain and clearly show what destructive effects Putin’s war has left even on his own society and regime.

However, he made these statements while serving as the US ambassador to Russia from 2005 to 2008, and he has sufficient knowledge of the country’s internal situation.

On the other hand, the leader of Wagner’s mercenary group, who was considered one of Putin’s close allies, continued his disagreements with the heads of the Russian army, causing him to rebel.
