A group of women and girls in Kabul staged a protest march in the new city of Kabul in connection with growing poverty and unemployment and restrictions imposed by the Taliban.
Shamail Tavana, one of the protesting women, told Bayannews that the march was organized by the spontaneous protesting women’s movement and the Afghan women’s movement for justice and freedom.
He added that the march was held today, Sunday (June 8) in the new city of Kabul.
The protesting women and girls chanted slogans such as “Bread”, “Work”, “Freedom” and “Education is my right”.
One of the protesting girls told reporters that they would continue their protests until they received equal rights.
Demonstrations of women and girls in Kabul take place at a time when the Kabul-based government is imposing strict restrictions on women every day.
In the past month, the Taliban leadership has issued a decree banning women and girls from wearing the hijab and banning female performers from appearing on television.
