Washington: Mention to Afghan Girls: The United States is Affected by the Current Situation of Women

Bayan News – A source tells Bayan News that Karen Decker, the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy for Afghanistan in Qatar, held a virtual session with a group of Afghan girls to discuss the current situation of women and girls in the country.

The virtual session, which took place on Monday (August 14th), saw the U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires referencing the recent meetings between U.S. representatives and the Islamic Emirate delegation in Doha, stating that it was deemed necessary to receive transparent reactions from women and girls regarding these meetings.

According to the source, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires initially highlighted that the United States is affected by the current situation in Afghanistan, and international efforts have been made to improve the situation. For this purpose, Washington sent representatives to meet with the leaders of the Islamic Emirate in Doha.

“What have you heard about our meetings with the leaders of the Islamic Emirate, and what was the people’s reaction?” This was the first question posed by the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to one of the Afghan girls.

The Afghan girls responded to the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires’ question by stating that the reaction of women and girls was negative and, more than ever, this vulnerable group in Afghanistan became angry. At the same time, women and girls became suspicious of the human rights slogans of the United States and the United Nations.

According to the source, Afghan women and girls, despite hardships and difficulties, have received education, become aware, and demonstrated their capabilities to the world over the past twenty years. However, the international community and the United States, in such circumstances, have failed to support women and girls.

The source further added that it was clearly stated to Ms. Decker that Afghan women and girls no longer trust the international community, the United States, and human rights institutions.

Today, August 15th, coincides with the second anniversary of the collapse of the Republic system and the reestablishment of the Islamic Emirate’s control over Afghanistan.

Under the Islamic Emirate’s rule, dozens of orders were issued to restrict women and girls in Afghanistan, with the first order being the ban on girls’ education beyond the sixth grade.
