British Prime Minister: Attack on Houthis was in self-defense

Bayan News – Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of Britain, stated that the joint US and British attack on the Houthi rebels in Yemen was carried out in self-defense and was proportionate.

He made these remarks in his first appearance after the US and British airstrikes on the Houthi rebels, emphasizing that due to the importance and urgency of the matter, it was not possible to inform the country’s parliament before the attack.

The British Prime Minister stressed that the Houthis had directly targeted British interests and that the conducted attacks were limited in scope, and the objective was not to escalate tensions.

Sunak further stated that the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea had caused severe economic problems and these threats against ships needed to be stopped.

He added, “Thirteen targets, which were the launch sites for Houthi drones and ballistic missiles, were destroyed, and in these attacks, no harm was done to civilians.”

US and British fighter jets conducted airstrikes on Houthi bases in southern and western Yemen three days ago, resulting in the deaths of several Houthi fighters.

The British Prime Minister stated that the decision to launch the attack was not taken lightly, and diplomatic efforts were made to resolve the situation, while sending a message to the Houthis. However, these efforts did not yield results.
