White House: We have no intention of leaving Syria.
Bayan news – In response to reports of the withdrawal of US forces from Syria, the White House has announced that US forces will not be leaving Syria.
A White House official told Al Arabiya that the Biden administration has no plans to withdraw its forces from Syria.
Earlier, Foreign Policy magazine had reported, citing sources in the US State Department and the Pentagon, that Washington is considering a complete withdrawal of its forces from Syria.
According to these sources, the White House has no interest in remaining in Syria and considers it “unnecessary.”
Currently, there are discussions within the government regarding the timing and manner of the withdrawal of US forces, although this decision has not been finalized yet.
These statements come as armed groups in Iraq and Syria have increased their attacks on coalition forces inside Syrian territory since October 7, following the Israeli war and the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip.
90 Attacks
According to the latest statistics from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, since October 19, 2023, which is 12 days after the war, there have been 90 attacks against US bases.
Among these, 22 attacks targeted the “Conico” field base, and 21 attacks targeted the “Al-Omar” oil field, the largest US base in Deir ez-Zor.
The “Al-Shaddadi” base on the outskirts of Hasakah has been attacked 15 times, and the “Kharab al-Jeer” base has also been attacked 15 times.
The United States has deployed 900 soldiers in Syria and another 2,500 soldiers in Iraq as coalition forces, serving as advisors to local forces, to prevent the resurgence of ISIS, which controlled a significant portion of the country since 2014.
