International pressures; The Taliban appointed an eight-member committee to reopen girls’ schools

Bayan News

Officials in the Taliban-led government in Kabul say an eight-member committee chaired by Supreme Court Chief Abdul Hakim Haqqani has been set up to reopen girls’ schools.

Anamullah Samangani, the Taliban’s deputy spokesman, said in a video that the committee had begun its work and that the problem of how to reopen girls’ schools was expected to be resolved in the near future.

However, it has been 250 days since the blocking of schools for girls over the sixth grade across Afghanistan, during which time, despite international pressure, the Taliban did not allow schools to reopen.

The Taliban’s policies toward Afghan women have provoked widespread reactions both domestically and internationally.
