Following the imposition of restrictions on education and work on Afghan women and girls, a number of Kabul residents at a ceremony called for respect for women’s rights, especially in the education sector.
Kabul residents on Sunday made the demands by holding a ceremony attended by Kabul officials.
Azimullah Khanjani, a tribal elder, added that those who specialize in law, economics and other areas should be involved in the government in order to provide the ground for progress.
Stating that education is the only way to improve her country, she noted that education should be provided for girls and women.
Zalmay Ahmadi, another tribal elder in Kabul, added that people want security, education, a good economy and good agriculture, and that these things help to rebuild the country.
Meanwhile, Kabul Governor Mohammad Qasim Khalid said that after the Islamic Emirate’s dominance of Afghanistan, the education process has improved, saying, “If there are no facilities, the Islamic Emirate is committed to strengthening the education sector and there will be no problems in this regard.”
However, after the change in the political system and the dominance of the Islamic Emirate, severe restrictions were imposed on women and girls.
Education for girls above sixth grade was banned and girls were banned from going to universities.
Officials from the Government of the Islamic Emirate have said that educational restrictions for women and girls are not permanent, but are prohibited until the second one.
