The boat carrying about 19 asylum seekers sank in the Mediterranean sea on its way to Italy, international media have reported.
The report, published Sunday (March 27), stated that the boat carrying asylum seekers had departed from the port of Sfaqas in eastern Tunisia to Italy.
The tunisian coast guard rescued at least five asylum seekers, the report quoted human rights officials as saying.
In recent days, the Tunisian coast guard has intercepted more than 50 boats carrying asylum seekers bound for Italy, according to published reports.
The report comes after a number of refugees from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Syria drowned off the southern coast of Italy, killing at least 45 Afghan refugees.
