Securityofficials in Balkh province say they have arrested 1,143 people in connection with various criminal offences over the past year.
Mohammad Asif Waziri, a spokesman for the provincial security command, added in a press briefing on Saturday that the men were arrested for murder, kidnapping, robbery and running away from home.
According to Vaziri, among those arrested were 133 women, and their cases were sent to judicial institutions.
He also revealed that 14 people were arrested in Mazar-e-Sharif on charges of explosions and 24 for kidnapping.
Security officials in Balkh province have assured the public that serious security measures have been taken to protect the people and that there is no concern.
