OCHA warned: millions of Afghans will face the risk of starvation as funding ends

Bayan News

The United Nations Office of The United Nations Assistance Coordinator for Afghanistan (OCHA) has warned that its budget is running out and will have to cut aid for those in need by half.

Ocha said in a tweet On Wednesday (April 12) that with the end of the budget, the aid process for the needy will cease and millions of Afghans face the risk of starvation and famine.

Addressing the international community, the Office of the Coordinator for Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) has said that if adequate funding is not provided, the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan will become more pervasive than ever.

However, UN agencies in Afghanistan have figures that they need $800 million in urgent funding by the end of 2023 to help the Afghan people.

Meanwhile, by the end of 2023, the Coordinating Division for Humanitarian Assistance for Afghanistan has provided a $4.3 billion budget to the international community, of which only five percent has been provided.
