United Nations: Now is not the time to turn our backs on the people of Afghanistan

Ramir Alakbrov, the deputy special representative of the United Nations in Afghanistan, says that although the recent actions of the Taliban have had a negative impact on the aid operations in this country, now is not the time to turn one’s back on the Afghan people.
On Wednesday (April 19), he said in a tweet that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has reached its peak and to deal with this crisis, the immediate priority is to maintain the humanitarian situation, prevent hunger, the spread of disease and death.
The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations, stating that the needs will increase in Afghanistan, noted that the humanitarian environment is expected to improve and that the donors will immediately apply for funds to activate the aid organizations.
He has also given statistics that more than four billion dollars are needed to provide aid in 2023 to curb the risks of hunger and deadly diseases.
Alakbarov makes these statements while after banning women from working in the offices of the United Nations, the officials of this organization warned that if the Taliban are not convinced, they will decide to leave Afghanistan in May of this year.
At the same time, on the first of May, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, is supposed to host a meeting in Doha, the capital of Qatar, about Afghanistan, and representatives of different countries will participate in this meeting.
