The results of the annual report of the Institute of Economics and Peace, which is headquartered in Australia, show that the peace situation in the green continent has worsened compared to 15 years ago.

In its latest annual report, this institute has evaluated and analyzed the state of peace in the world.

According to the report of this institute, Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine and its consequences are one of the main reasons for the deterioration of the peace situation in the world and have caused peace in this continent to be less than 15 years ago.

In their report for the World Peace Index in 2023, the experts of this think tank asked European leaders to learn from past experiences.

Steve Killea, head of the Institute for Economics and Peace, said: “If we look at modern wars, we find that winning them has almost no meaning. Just think of the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, followed by the US invasion of Afghanistan, as well as Iraq and Syria. Bashar al-Assad is still in power. Ukraine is at a standstill today. There are other conflicts like Yemen that have been going on for almost a decade.”

Referring to the war in Ukraine, Mr. Killea added: “If European countries were united after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and made it clear what the consequences would be for Moscow in the event of another invasion, I don’t think there would be a place where Today we are arriving.”

According to the statistics of this institute, Russia and Ukraine are now among the ten countries with the lowest level of peace.

In terms of peace and security, Ukraine has suffered the worst deterioration in the situation in the world. Despite the war in Ukraine, Europe is still the most peaceful region on the planet.

Seven of the ten most peaceful countries in the world are from the European continent, and Iceland has been ranked first for the 16th year in a row.
