Mirziyoyev re-elected as President of Uzbekistan

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the current President of Uzbekistan, has been re-elected as the country’s president in the presidential elections.

Zainiddin Nizomkhodjayev, the head of the Uzbekistan Election Commission, announced in a press conference on Tuesday (July 10th) that Mirziyoyev has legally become the President of the country based on the votes of the people.

He added, “Since Shavkat Mirziyoyev has received 87.35% of the votes, according to preliminary data, he has been elected as the President legally.”

Mirziyoyev defeated his two main rivals by winning the majority of the votes. His main competitors were the Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan and the leader of the country’s Democratic People’s Party.

According to the Uzbekistan Election Commission, more than 79% of the country’s population participated in the early elections.
