Senior Iranian official expresses concern about the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Hussain Amir-Abdollahian, the Iranian Foreign Minister, has claimed in recent statements that ISIS commanders have been transferred from Iraq, Syria, and Libya to Afghanistan.

He made these remarks on Friday (July 20th) in an interview with the ISNA news agency, stating that the transfer of ISIS leaders to Afghanistan is one of the important challenges facing the Kabul government.

Abdollahian expressed concern that instability in Afghanistan has a direct impact on Iran’s border areas, pointing out that Iran shares a 900-kilometer border with Afghanistan.

He is concerned about the presence of ISIS commanders in Afghanistan, more than a year after dozens of ISIS hideouts were targeted and destroyed by the Afghan government forces.

However, Kabul government officials strongly deny the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister, referring to how to recognize the legitimacy of the Kabul government, added that Tehran does not recognize the current Afghan government without a comprehensive government formation.

He clarified in the interview that he has repeatedly raised the issue of comprehensive government formation with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan. “No current group in Afghanistan has been able to manage a stable political system without the participation of other ethnic groups, so comprehensive government formation with the participation of all ethnic groups is a necessity, and you should not postpone it.”
