Conversation between Karzai and US Special Representative for Afghanistan on the Current Situation

Bayan News – Hamid Karzai, the former President of Afghanistan, states that he had a discussion with Thomas West, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, through a video conference regarding the current situation in the country.

Mr. Karzai wrote today, on Saturday (September 15th), on the X platform that in this video conference, emphasis was placed on important topics such as the economic situation in Afghanistan, humanitarian aid, and providing alternative livelihoods for the people of the country.

During the conference, Mr. Karzai considered education as a crucial issue for the youth of Afghanistan and requested cooperation from the US Special Representative in the field of education and schooling for Afghan youth.

The former President of Afghanistan also reiterated the importance of establishing the grounds for intra-Afghan talks as soon as possible, referencing the Afghan peace agreement.

It should be noted that recent reports had indicated that visits and discussions between the former President of Afghanistan and foreign diplomats were prohibited by the Islamic Emirate.

Mr. Karzai has consistently emphasized the resumption of intra-Afghan agreements and the reopening of schools and universities for girls in his meetings with foreign diplomats.
