Arrival of Winter and Termination of Food Aid for One Million Mothers and Children in Afghanistan

Bayan News – On the eve of the winter season, the World Food Programme has announced that as of the beginning of October of the current year, the provision of food assistance to one million mothers and children in Afghanistan has been terminated.

In recent days, the organization has stated in its reports the severe budget shortages and the lack of humanitarian support from the international community, saying, “More than one million mothers and children will no longer receive nutrition assistance due to severe budget shortages.”

The organization has emphasized that the majority of humanitarian aid in Afghanistan was provided to women and children, and now it is facing budget shortages with this trend.

However, the World Food Programme had previously warned about the lack of resources and insufficient budget during the cold winter season.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the World Food Programme had stated in an interview with CNN last month that if sufficient budget is not allocated to the organization, it will not be able to continue its humanitarian activities in Afghanistan.

Cindy McCann, the executive director of the program, had stated that due to budget shortages, a portion of its humanitarian activities will be suspended as of the beginning of the current month.
