Arrest of Two Journalists by the Taliban in Kabul

Bayan News – Supportive institutions for journalists reported on Friday, January 19, the arrest of two journalists by Taliban intelligence in Kabul.

The Afghan Journalists Center stated in a newsletter that Ahmad Jawad Rasouli and Abdul Haq Hamidi, two journalists from the Gardesh Etlaat Agency, were first summoned and then detained.

According to the statements of this institution, these journalists were arrested on Thursday, and the reason for their detention has not been clarified yet.

The Afghan Journalists Center demanded that the Taliban immediately release these two journalists and emphasized that complaints against journalists should be pursued through the Media Violations Commission.

However, according to statistics from the Afghan Journalists Center, nearly 170 cases of journalists’ rights violations by Taliban government institutions were recorded in 2023, 60 of which were related to the arrest of journalists.

Nevertheless, over the past two years, several journalists have been interrogated and imprisoned in various provinces and centers of Afghanistan for various reasons.

Currently, some journalists are also imprisoned in certain provinces.
