World Education Day: Karzai Calls on Taliban to Reopen Girls’ School Gates

Bayan News – Hamid Karzai, the former President of Afghanistan, has requested the Taliban government to create conducive conditions for girls’ education in a message on the occasion of World Education Day.

Mr. Karzai added on Thursday, January 24, that education forms the foundation of progress and prosperity in Afghanistan. He expressed hope that the gates of schools and universities would be opened to girls as soon as possible, so that Afghanistan can achieve self-reliance and true freedom.

He stated, “On the auspicious occasion of the day filled with meaningful teachings, I once again urge the Islamic Interim Government to create suitable conditions for the education of Afghan girls as soon as possible.”

Today, Thursday, coincided with World Education Day, which arrives at a time when women and girls in Afghanistan are deprived of the right to education.

Despite national and international pressures, the Taliban have not yet been compelled to reopen girls’ schools.

International organizations have expressed concern over the continuation of the ban on girls’ education and have stated that this challenge will isolate Afghanistan.
