Muttaqi to UNAMA Chief: Doha Meeting Did Not Yield Special Results
Bayan News – Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, stated in a meeting with Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and the head of UNAMA in Afghanistan, that he closely monitored the Doha meeting and observed that it did not produce any special results.
This meeting between Muttaqi and the UN Special Representative took place today, Friday (February 22nd).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs newsletter, Mr. Muttaqi expressed hope that such meetings would yield positive outcomes regarding interaction with Afghanistan.
Mr. Muttaqi also emphasized the importance of comprehensive consultations with the Kabul government on all issues for the effectiveness of these meetings.
On the other hand, the head of UNAMA, on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, stated that no action should be taken regarding the appointment of a Special Representative that would complicate working with the Afghan government.
According to Otunbayeva, if participating countries agree, more meetings will be held in Doha to facilitate better understanding.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoting the head of UNAMA, stated that the participants of the Doha meeting emphasized the continuation of engagement with the Afghan government.
The second Doha meeting was held three days ago with the participation of special representatives from over 25 countries and Afghan civil activists.
The caretaker Kabul government refrained from participating in this meeting due to its non-acceptance of its conditions.
