Miller: The United States is committed to addressing the foundational economic issues in Afghanistan.

Bayan News – Mitty Miller, spokesperson for the US Department of State, says that Washington is committed to supporting the people of Afghanistan and addressing the country’s foundational economic issues.

In a press briefing on Monday, Miller stated, “One of the ways we continue to do this is by addressing the macroeconomic fundamentals that provide the necessary stability for greater effectiveness and a more humanitarian response, and help alleviate many of the issues we see contributing to the current humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.”

The spokesperson for the US Department of State emphasized that the United States remains the largest provider of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and reaffirmed the commitment to continue this aid.

He also provided statistics indicating that the United States has provided over $2 billion in assistance to the people of Afghanistan in the past two and a half years.

On the other hand, several international organizations affiliated with the United Nations recently announced that out of the required budget of $3 billion to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, approximately $78 million has been secured.

International organizations have expressed concerns about the budget shortfall in providing aid to the people of Afghanistan and stated that at least 20 million people in the country are at risk of famine.
