China and Russia vetoed the draft resolution proposed by the United States for a ceasefire in Gaza

Bayan News – The permanent representatives of China and Russia at the United Nations Security Council vetoed the proposed draft resolution by the United States for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.

The draft resolution proposed by the United States was put to a vote today, Saturday, March 22, during the Security Council session. Eleven countries voted in favor of the resolution, while one country abstained.

This is the first time that China and Russia have coordinated to veto a draft resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the representative of the United States at the UN, stated before the vote that the United States seeks to establish an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and send humanitarian aid.

However, the representative of Russia in the organization stated that the draft resolution by the United States is an attempt by that country to prevent Israel from being punished.
