Sunni Cleric in Iran: Amir al-Mu’minin is Chosen by the People, Not by God

Bayan News – Mawlawi Abdulhamid, the Sunni Friday Prayer Leader in Zahedan, Iran, stated in his Friday sermon (April 12) that Amir al-Mu’minin (Commander of the Faithful) is chosen by the people, not by God.

He said, “In the Islamic system, the ruler only represents the people. The Caliph of the Muslims and Amir al-Mu’minin are also chosen by the people, not by God.”

This prominent Sunni cleric in Iran further emphasized, “The question arises as to whether there has been a dialogue with those who are unarmed and have grievances. Has there been a dialogue with political prisoners?”

According to Mawlawi Abdulhamid, the people of Iran have been protesting for three years, and it is necessary to listen to the demands and grievances of the people.

Referring to the recent attacks by Jaish al-Adl on Iranian security forces, he stated, “We are opposed to violence from any side, whoever it may be.”

Mawlawi Abdulhamid also made it clear that he does not accept violence from either the government or the people, and anyone who is dissatisfied should express their demands through peaceful dialogue.
