Russian Foreign Minister: ISIS and Al-Qaeda Centers Still Exist in Afghanistan
Bayan News – Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, says that the centers of the terrorist groups ISIS and Al-Qaeda still exist in Afghanistan.
Lavrov on Friday (June 21) at a press conference in Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, stated that due to the presence of ISIS and Al-Qaeda cells, the threats from Afghan soil continue to persist.
These statements come just a week before the third Doha conference, hosted by the United Nations, which is considered important for the political future of Afghanistan.
At this conference, the international community will discuss the current situation in Afghanistan.
The Russian Foreign Minister also said that the foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization countries called for meaningful and project-oriented dialogue with the Taliban.
He added: “In general, we are in favor of establishing a more stable, continuous and more fundamental dialogue, the purpose of which is the implementation of real projects with the Taliban government, which actually controls the country. This was the prevailing view during the discussions.”
The meeting of the foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization countries was held yesterday in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan.
