Armed Assailants Attack in Dagestan, Russia; 15 Police Officers Killed

Bayan News – Russian media reported that in an attack by armed individuals on a synagogue, two Orthodox churches, and a police station in Dagestan, Russia, 20 people were killed.

According to the reports, the casualties include 15 police officers and five armed assailants, while several civilians, including a church member, were also injured.

The state media reported that three days of public mourning have been declared in Dagestan.

The attacks occurred on Sunday (June 23) in the cities of Makhachkala and Derbent. 25 people were also injured in these attacks.

Russia has announced that it has launched a criminal investigation into the “terrorist acts” of the armed individuals in Dagestan.

Borukh Gorin, the head of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, said there are fears that some “terrorists” may still be inside the Derbent synagogue.

According to some reports, the attackers set fire to the Derbent synagogue.

The motives of the armed men for these attacks have not yet been disclosed, and no group has claimed responsibility.
