CENTCOM Report: 196 Operations Conducted Against ISIS in Iraq and Syria

Bayan News – The United States Central Command, or CENTCOM, has announced in its latest report that the command has conducted 196 operations against ISIS in the countries of Iraq and Syria.

This report, which covers the first half of 2024, states that these operations were carried out in collaboration with the anti-ISIS coalition forces, resulting in the deaths of eight senior ISIS commanders and the arrest of 32 senior members of the group.

According to the report, the arrested senior ISIS members were responsible for recruitment, training, arms trafficking, and planning attacks outside of Iraq and Syria.

The CENTCOM report states that 137 operations were carried out in Iraq and 59 operations in Syria.

According to the CENTCOM report, in the operations inside Iraq, 30 ISIS members were killed and 74 ISIS fighters were arrested, while in Syria, 14 ISIS members were killed and at least 100 others were arrested.

Based on the report, the search for around 2,500 other ISIS members who have hidden among the civilian population in Iraq and Syria is ongoing.

The CENTCOM statement also highlighted the need for a rehabilitation and reintegration process for the approximately 9,000 imprisoned ISIS members in Syria and more than 43,000 individuals in the Al-Hol and Al-Roj camps in Syria.

The United Nations had previously reported that Afghanistan under Taliban control has become a safe haven for terrorist groups. This report expressed concern about the security situation in Iran, Pakistan, and other Central Asian countries following the departure of ISIS-Khorasan members from Afghanistan.

According to the 15th report of the UN Monitoring Team on ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and the Taliban, the ISIS-Khorasan group has recently expanded its activities to Russia and has claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks. The report also states that the largest “terrorist” group in Afghanistan is now the Pakistani Taliban.

While confirming Kabul’s claim that its operations have pushed key ISIS personnel across Afghanistan’s borders, the report expresses concern about the impact of this displacement on the security situation in Pakistan, Iran, and other Central Asian countries.
