Macron: Afghan women and girls should be hopeful about the future

Bayan News – French President Emmanuel Macron says that the US withdrawal from Afghanistan has severely impacted the women and girls of that country. However, he emphasized that Afghan women should be hopeful about the future.

The French President, in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty published on Tuesday (July 23), added that the people of Afghanistan, especially its women and girls, are strong.

He said, “We did what we could to welcome refugees and protect the people after that decision (the US withdrawal) and its consequences in Afghanistan.”

Macron further added in the interview, “I also know how strong your people are, and I want to send this message to the women and girls of Afghanistan that they should be hopeful about the future.”

This comes as the Taliban have issued more than 50 restrictive decrees against women and girls since coming to power in Afghanistan. Closing schools to girls, banning women from working in government offices, and restricting women’s social mobility are among the major limitations that have been imposed.
