A senior Taliban political official has traveled to Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President

Bayan News – Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban, arrived in Tehran on Monday, July 29th, on an official invitation to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian, the new President of Iran.

The Taliban’s statement said that in addition to attending the inauguration ceremony, the senior Taliban political official will also meet with various officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran to discuss strengthening economic and political relations with Iran, as well as resolving the problems of Afghan refugees in Iran.

The Taliban deputy prime minister’s visit to Tehran comes amid widespread reports of harassment and abuse of Afghan refugees by Iran and its police forces. Videos circulating on social media have shown both legal and illegal Afghan migrants being beaten by police and the public in many Iranian cities.
