Durrani: ISIS in Afghanistan is a major challenge for the region and the world
Bayan News – Asif Darani, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, warns that another attack similar to 9/11 could occur from Afghan soil.
The Pakistani special representative made these statements in an interview with the Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune. The newspaper’s report was published on Monday (August 19).
Durrani said: “I think this [the international community’s neglect of Afghanistan] could bring Afghanistan back to the pre-9/11 situation, which actually led to the 9/11 attack.”
Darani added that ISIS in Afghanistan will become a major challenge for the countries in the region and the world.
On the other hand, this Pakistani official harshly criticized the international community’s indifference towards Afghanistan.
He pointed out that the world no longer attaches importance to the Afghan issue after the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, and this has allowed the ISIS group to expand its territory in that country (Afghanistan).
Referring to the recent ISIS attacks in Iran and Moscow, Darani stressed that this shows ISIS’s ability to carry out cross-border attacks.
However, the relations between the current government in Kabul (the Taliban) and Islamabad have been tense in the last two years.
Pakistani officials claim that the Afghan Taliban have provided refuge to the TTP on their soil; claims that have always been denied by the Afghan Taliban.
