Is Afghanistan’s airspace safer than the skies of Iran and Israel?

Bayan News – An exclusive Reuters report shows that Afghanistan’s airspace is safer for major airlines than the skies of Iran and Israel.

The report, published on Friday (August 23), states that most major airlines have increased their use of Afghan airspace.

This report comes as air traffic control services in Afghanistan have not resumed after a three-year hiatus.

Reuters reported that with escalating tensions in the Middle East region, major airlines have considered Afghan airspace as a safe option.

According to the report, major airlines including Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Turkish Airlines, Thai Airways, and Air France have increased their use of Afghan airspace in recent months.

Reuters also reported that airlines have resumed using Afghan airspace after nearly three years of avoiding it.

Ian Petchenik, a spokesman for FlightRadar24, said that the escalation of tensions in the Middle East has changed the calculations of using airspaces. He added that airlines are naturally looking to reduce risk, and with increased tensions between Iran and Israel, they have assessed Afghan airspace as safer.

FlightRadar24 reports that in the second week of August, flights in Afghan airspace increased sevenfold compared to the same period last year.

Airline data shows that the closure of Russian airspace after the start of the Ukraine war and the increase in tensions in the Middle East have influenced the use of Afghan airspace.

However, the main growth began when the head of the Hamas office in Iran was killed, and concerns about Iranian attacks on Israel increased.
