Bayan News – The United States Ambassador to Uzbekistan has announced an agreement between the US and Uzbekistan regarding the former Afghan army’s aircraft.
Jonathan Henick, the US Ambassador to Uzbekistan, told Uzbek reporters on Monday (August 26) that according to the agreement between the United States and Uzbekistan, the former Afghan army’s aircraft will remain in Tashkent.
The US Ambassador further stated: “These aircraft never belonged to the Afghans, they belonged to the US, and the Afghan army was using them, but the ownership has always been with the US.”
According to this US official, around 46 former Afghan army aircraft and helicopters will remain in Uzbekistan.
The issue of the aircraft in Tashkent has always been one of the contentious topics between the Taliban and the United States in the past three years.
These aircraft were transferred to Uzbekistan following the collapse of the former Afghan army.
The Taliban considers these aircraft to belong to Afghanistan and has consistently tried to have them returned to Afghanistan over the past three years.
