An Italian special court opposed the transfer of refugees to camps in Albania

Bayan News – A special immigration court in Rome ruled that 12 migrants, who were sent to a camp in northern Albania a few days ago for the review of their cases, must be returned to Italy.

According to published reports, the court argued that these refugees and migrants are from countries where they may face dangers if returned.

This ruling is a major blow to one of the policies of the government of Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s Prime Minister.

Under a five-year agreement between Meloni’s government and the Albanian government, the first group of migrants intercepted in international waters was transferred to Italian-run centers in Albania on Monday.

However, the court, citing a recent ruling by the European Court of Justice, stated that they must be returned to Italy.

Meloni’s party, known as “Brothers of Italy,” described the ruling as “political” and announced that it would challenge the decision.

According to the plan, up to 3,000 men are expected to be transferred to these centers each month, where they will stay while their asylum applications are processed. Children, women, and vulnerable individuals will remain in Italy.

Human rights groups have questioned this plan, arguing that it does not provide adequate protection for the refugees.
