Qatar provides scholarships for Afghan students in Indonesia

Bayan News – Officials from the foreign ministries of Qatar and Indonesia have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), under which scholarships will be provided for a number of Afghan students in Indonesia.

The signing ceremony of this MoU took place on Sunday (October 20) via a video conference. In this virtual meeting, the Qatari Deputy Foreign Minister and the Indonesian Foreign Minister discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, particularly the situation of women and girls.

According to reports, the purpose of this agreement is to create a platform of cooperation to strengthen the human capacity of Afghans by offering scholarships in Indonesia.

The Qatari Deputy Foreign Minister added that initially, more than 20 Afghan students in Indonesia will benefit from these scholarships.

Additionally, the Indonesian Foreign Minister said that the cooperation between the two countries to offer scholarships to Afghan students demonstrates their shared commitment to building a brighter future for Afghanistan.

He further mentioned that the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan highlights the urgent need for education, especially for Afghan women and girls.

Marsudi also pointed out that this year Indonesia provided 10 million doses of polio vaccine and humanitarian aid to the Afghan people affected by natural disasters.

The Indonesian official clarified that Indonesia has collaborated with a local non-governmental organization to launch a mental health services project for 400 Afghan women.

This scholarship agreement comes at a time when, for the past three years, the Taliban’s interim government has prohibited girls from attending schools and universities.
