Iranian and Indian leaders discussed Afghanistan
Bayan News – The leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran and India met and discussed Afghanistan on the evening of Tuesday (October 22) on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the city of Kazan, Russia.
The office of the Indian Prime Minister released a statement, adding that Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, and Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, emphasized the importance of the Chabahar port for the development and reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Narendra Modi stated that the long-term agreement on the Chabahar port is of great importance for the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan and for strengthening trade and economic ties with Central Asia.
The Indian Prime Minister added: “The development of the Chabahar port is the largest pillar of our cooperation, and we believe that this development will play an important role in shaping the relations between our two countries, as well as Iran and India’s relations with other countries in the region.”
The President of Iran, during the meeting, said that Afghanistan must be helped to achieve peace and stability.
The office of the President of Iran released a statement saying that Pezeshkian addressed the concerns of the Indian Prime Minister regarding Afghanistan’s issues and said: “We must build the future of the region with motivation and will, and engage and dialogue with Afghanistan. We must help the people of Afghanistan resolve their issues and achieve peace, tranquility, and prosperity.”
Pezeshkian also stated: “Iran supports any action that contributes to the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan.”
The leaders of both countries also exchanged views on regional developments, including the situation in West Asia.
