Amnesty International: Women in Afghanistan Face Intense Attacks
Bayan News – Amnesty International has expressed deep concern over the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, stating that women are facing severe and escalating attacks.
In a message posted on platform X this Wednesday (October 30), the organization highlighted that the policies and restrictions imposed by the interim government have impacted women and girls in every aspect of their lives. Amnesty International has called on the interim government to immediately revoke all decrees and actions that violate the human rights of women and girls.
However, officials from the interim government consider women’s issues a domestic matter and have repeatedly urged international organizations and the global community to refrain from interference.
These concerns arise amid recent statements by the Taliban’s Minister for the Promotion of Virtue, who announced that “women cannot pray loudly enough for another woman to hear.” He further referenced a new virtue law stating that women are prohibited from singing or raising their voices to sing.
Since the Taliban’s rise to power, Afghan women and girls have faced severe restrictions and exclusion. Currently, girls above sixth grade are prohibited from attending school, university, or work.
