Israel Officially Notifies the UN of the UNRWA Agreement Cancellation
Bayan News – International media have reported that the Israeli government has formally informed the United Nations of the cancellation of UNRWA activities in the West Bank and Gaza.
According to published reports, UNRWA has stated that prohibiting its activities will exacerbate suffering and hunger among the Palestinian people.
Barak Ravid, a journalist for Axios, also shared an image of a letter from Israel’s Foreign Ministry to UN officials, in which it stated that the Knesset had previously approved the prohibition of UNRWA activities, which will take effect after a three-month period.
The letter further stated: “During this period and afterward, Israel will continue to collaborate with international partners, including other UN entities, to facilitate humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza in a manner that does not compromise Israel’s security. Israel expects the UN to cooperate and participate in this effort.”
The Associated Press also reported that the recently passed Israeli laws, which effectively ban UNRWA’s activities within Israel, will create a gap, resulting in more casualties and increased instability in Gaza and the West Bank.
UNRWA was established in 1949 to support Palestinian refugees and began its operations in several countries that host these refugees.
