Iranian Official: Over 500,000 Afghan Visas Are Issued Annually
Bayan News – A recent Iranian official has claimed that approximately four thousand Afghans enter Iran legally with visas every day.
Nader Yar Ahmadi, the head of the Center for Foreign Nationals and Migrants at Iran’s Ministry of Interior, stated on Wednesday (November 20) that, in addition to this figure, more than 500,000 Afghan visas are issued annually.
This official from the Ministry of Interior also mentioned that Afghanistan’s air travel capacity is very limited, and nearly 1% of Afghans enter Iran via air travel.
During a meeting with the governor of Kerman, he described the reasons for migration as “regional crises and natural disasters.”
He further noted that the current number of Afghans in Iran has reached six million.
The head of the Center for Foreign Nationals and Migrants added that the United Nations and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees are attempting to grant legal identity to anyone who crosses the border, but emphasized that the Islamic Republic does not accept such measures.
These remarks come at a time when Iran’s Minister of the Interior recently stated that illegal migrants residing in Iran have no option other than to return to their home countries.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly announced in the past month that more than one million Afghan migrants will be deported by the end of this year.
