CSTO to Approve Plan to Strengthen Tajikistan-Afghanistan Border Within Three Days
Bayan News – Imangali Tasmagambetov, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has stated that a significant number of terrorist groups remain active in Afghanistan.
In an interview with Belarusian network STV, Tasmagambetov announced, “The CSTO will approve a plan to strengthen the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan on November 28 during a meeting in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.”
The Secretary General described the activity of terrorist groups in Afghanistan as a persistent and serious problem. He emphasized that strengthening the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border is a priority for the organization, and that the CSTO will place greater focus on this effort.
Tasmagambetov also referred to the approval of the plan as a targeted initiative among CSTO member states. He expressed concern about the situation in Afghanistan, noting that the plan to bolster Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan would enable CSTO members to jointly ensure the security of Central Asian countries.
This comes despite assurances by the Taliban’s interim government over the past three years to regional countries that Afghanistan’s territory would not be used against any other nation.
The CSTO’s member states include Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Over the past two years, the organization has repeatedly expressed concern about the ongoing presence and activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
