The Syrian city of Aleppo has been seized by armed rebels opposing Bashar al-Assad’s government
Bayan News – The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that anti-government militants have taken control of most areas, government centers, and prisons in the city of Aleppo.
On Saturday, November 30, international media quoted the Observatory, stating that the governor, police commanders, and Syrian army forces had withdrawn from central Aleppo.
According to reports, militants swiftly captured parts of Aleppo without any resistance.
Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP: “No clashes occurred, not a single shot was fired, as the Syrian army forces under Bashar al-Assad’s control retreated.”
However, the Observatory announced yesterday that militants had taken control of 50 towns and villages in Aleppo.
As militants advanced, AFP reported that, for the first time since 2016, the Russian military bombed parts of Aleppo in support of the Syrian government.
The Syrian army had reclaimed these areas in 2016 with Russian air support and the assistance of Iranian-backed military groups from the militants.
