The Ban on Girls’ Education in Medical Institutes Faces Widespread Reactions

Bayan News – The interim government’s unexpected decision to ban girls from studying in medical institutes has sparked widespread reactions, including responses from numerous international organizations, such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, released a video statement, describing this as an “unprecedented injustice in the modern world.”

The UN official has called on the interim government to immediately abolish all discriminatory policies.

In addition to the international outcry, social media users have also reacted to this decision, expressing their opposition.

Following the announcement of the ban, many girls in medical institutes shared videos expressing their despair and sorrow.

This decision comes after the prohibition on girls attending universities in December 2022. Since then, many had continued their education in medical institutes. However, with this new decree, the last opportunity for Afghan girls to pursue education in medical fields has been taken away.
