Erdogan: The Goal of Armed Opponents of the Syrian Government is Damascus

Bayan News – Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey, expressed hope that the rebels opposing Bashar al-Assad’s government would continue their advances without any problems.

The Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on Friday, December 6, that Erdogan stated: “Idlib, Hama, Homs, and of course, the ultimate goal is Damascus. The opposition’s advances continue. We hope this movement in Syria proceeds safely and without incidents.”

The Turkish president, highlighting the continued progress of armed opponents of the Syrian government, said: “I hope they continue their path without difficulties.”

He emphasized: “We had called on Assad to work together to determine the future of Syria, but we did not receive a positive response.”

Turkey, which supports Assad’s opponents, has declared that its priority is to prevent further instability in the region.

Erdogan previously stated that Turkey supports Syria’s territorial integrity and is striving to reach a fair and lasting solution to the Syrian crisis.
