Express News – The World Food Programme (WFP) has expressed concerns over the increase in malnutrition cases, including children, in certain regions of Afghanistan.
In a recent statement published on the X platform, the organization highlighted that the number of individuals affected by malnutrition in healthcare centers in several areas of Afghanistan has tripled.
According to the World Food Programme, it is possible that around three million children will suffer from acute malnutrition in the year 2024.
The World Food Programme has reiterated that it can only provide assistance for the treatment of 1.6 million malnourished children this year.
The organization further stated that there are currently 2,700 active healthcare centers throughout Afghanistan, providing services to children and women.
Based on published reports, the World Food Programme had initially planned to address the healthcare needs of 800,000 pregnant women this year, but the number has now surpassed one million.
It is worth noting that international aid to Afghanistan has significantly declined following the fall of the previous government, severely impacting the provision of healthcare services in the country.
