Taliban’s Reaction to the US Annual Report: Westerners Should Not Impose Their Culture on Others

Bayan News – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the interim Taliban government, has responded to the recent report on human rights by the US Department of State.

The report, published on Monday (April 22), criticizes the Taliban for its human rights abuses in Afghanistan.

In response to the report, Mujahid added that the people of Afghanistan are Muslims and their rights are provided based on Sharia law.

The Taliban spokesperson stated in an audio message released through national radio and television, “What is defined as culture and human rights in America and other Western countries differs from Afghanistan, and Westerners should not impose their culture on other nations.”

The report by the US Department of State also states that the Taliban has continued to violate human rights, particularly through public punishments of individuals, over the past year.

However, since coming to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban has issued over 50 restrictive orders, particularly targeting the control of women and girls.

The most significant restrictions imposed by the Taliban against women include the prohibition of girls’ education, the ban on women working, and the curtailment of women’s social freedoms.
